In addition to underground cables and sea cables, overhead lines are high-voltage lines for the transmission of electrical energy with high electrical voltage. The most common high-voltage lines are overhead lines that are suspended from tall steel lattice towers with insulators and are usually also insulated from each other and from the ground only by the surrounding air. The steel lattice towers are additionally grounded. There are fixed regulations for the distances of overhead lines to buildings, to the ground and to each other. The structure of the conductor cable usually consists of a multicore steel core and surrounding aluminum cores.
HOW ARE OVERHEAD LINES CONSTRUCTED?
Aluminum-steel conductors are most commonly used in overhead line construction. The construction consists of a multi-core steel core in the middle of the conductor and surrounding aluminum cores in several bundles, at least three, often 6, depending on the operating voltage.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF OVERHEAD LINES?
Aluminum cores have high electrical conductivity, but are much lighter compared to copper. The steel core provides the load-bearing capacity of the conductor cable, which is subjected to high tensile forces at the mast. The surrounding air insulates the heat generated by the current flow. Another advantage, especially in winter, is the increased cooling capacity for transmitting even more power. Overhead lines are significantly less expensive than other cable options.
WHAT TOOLS DO I NEED FOR OVERHEAD LINE CONSTRUCTION?
When cutting overhead lines according to DIN EN 50182, it must be ensured that the cutting blades of the tools are hardened in such a way that the blades also cut through the steel core without any problems. Here you will find an overview of our cutting tools with corresponding cutting ranges. Our entire portfolio of crimping tools is available to you. For your DIN hexagonal crimping, you can select the appropriate crimping dies for Al and St sleeves to match the nominal cross-section (DIN 48201) via the corresponding crimping die table in the download area. THESE TOOLS ASSIST WITH GROUNDING WORK.
Power poles are usually grounded. There are various options for making the appropriate holes: Either punch a corresponding hole with a hole punching head LSK or use a hole punching adapter LSA12 in combination with a battery crimping tool (PressMax-12, InLiner IC12-O).
