Saw Blade Choice
WHICH SAW BLADE DO I USE FOR MY AIR SAW ?
You have made a good decision by choosing one of our air saws. Now you need the right saw blade. And here the choice depends on your requirements and the material to be cut.
WHAT MATERIAL IS THE SAW BLADE MADE OFF?
The teeth of the saw blade should match the material: It is optimal if the teeth are harder than the material to be worked on. The rule is that hard saw blades are more brittle and more likely to break, while elastic saw blades become blunt more quickly. Manufacturers of saw blades often use elastic base bodies with hard teeth made of bimetal or hard metal. They are more expensive to buy, but have a much longer service life.
We have a selection of bi-metal saw blades in stock, but will also be happy to provide you with saw blades not shown here. Our bi-metal saw blades are resistant to high temperatures, spark-free, wear-resistant and are used in hardwood, hard plastics, GRP, steel pipes, non-ferrous metals, and aluminium - they cut sheet metal, profiles, pipes, pallets with nails and much more.
HOW LONG SHOULD THE SAW BLADE BE?
HOW MANY TEETH ARE CORRECT?
We recommend a saw blade that is at least 2.5 times longer than the thickness of the material you want to cut. You have to decide on the number of teeth: Fast work progress with larger spacing of the teeth or finer cut and lower work progress with close tooth spacing.
The basic rule is:
- There should never be less than 3 teeth in contact with the workpiece.
- The ideal value is 6 to 12 teeth.
- The maximum is 24 teeth.
We have a graph below to help you choose the saw blade for solid material. In the coloured boxes you can read the actual number of teeth that would be ideal (green) or possible (yellow) according to the thickness of the material. When working on pipes, you must select the saw blade length according to the pipe diameter. Here you can download a complete overview for the selection of the saw blade. The number of teeth for tubes and also hollow profiles is correspondingly 2 x the wall thickness in mm.
We have only shown the selection here in relation to the saw blades we have in stock. Due to the variety of materials and requirements, there are of course many more saw blade options. There are also many variants in the grinding of the teeth. Please feel free to contact us if you would like us to procure the right saw blade for you, we will be happy to help you.
